The former student of Dschang University went to the West in search of a profile that could not be more competent. To the credit of this man, a host of diplomas. His baccalaureate D (scientific option), obtained in Cameroon, would have foreshadowed it all the same. After a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy acquired at the University of Dschang (2016), he headed for Milan to validate a scholarship that led him to a competition. Out of 1800 candidates in the running, he is the major of the four selected and obtained a Ph.D. in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Sports Physiotherapy, and Orthopedic Rehabilitation Section. In England, he will get another master’s degree in Sports Medicine and is waiting for others in France (Paris Descartes University in Sports Physiotherapy) and Italy. “The important thing is not to be a clinician, but to think to improve things,” he explains.

To make things better, he does his best. For three years, between 2014 and 2017, he worked for the Cameroonian club the Royal Eagle of Menoua, the members of the club La Lazio de la Roma also benefited from his services. To say that the world of medicine might not have known about him. According to those close to him, he is a brilliant midfielder and excellent full-back, hence his nickname “Njitap.” If he is not on the field today, he is not in the stands either. He found the right balance not to be offside. It was a surgeon he met in college who advised him to consider a specialization in physiotherapy.

As exciting as his enthusiasm for this profession can be, he had to face reality: “In Cameroon, it is complicated, the organization of the profession knows obstacles. It is difficult to determine the market value of a physiotherapist. It must be recognized that we gradually understand the importance of the actors in the field. Yet he shares that the profession is respected outside the country because a physiotherapist does not run the streets … ” he shares. Rest assured, with what he has learned, the one who also officiates at the FIFA Center of Excellence in Rome earns a good living. When a satisfied individual can pay you 10,000 euros, there is not necessarily cause for concern here or elsewhere. He could have stayed outside on several occasions, but he returned to the country. “I really like teaching, transmitting… ” he tells us. It could be that the truth is quite different. Maurice Douryang dreams of great things for Cameroon. This could involve the construction of a FIFA Centre of Excellence in the land of Roger Milla and Samuel Eto’o. A desire that he has nurtured ever since for his homeland.
