What does it take to move from protest lines to policy rooms, from grassroots activism to shaping communities? Akogun Olugbenga Omole’s journey provides a rare answer. Over nearly three decades, he has navigated activism, politics, enterprise, infrastructure, and youth empowerment often simultaneously. His story is not just ambition; it is sustained relevance in a system that constantly changes its demands. Omole exemplifies leadership that adapts, delivers, and leaves tangible impact.
Omole’s public service began in 1995 with Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement through the Campaign for Democracy and the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights. These early experiences shaped his commitment to civic responsibility, justice, and inclusive governance, values that guided his political journey. He later became a founding member of Ondo State Youth in Politics and a founding member of the Action Congress of Nigeria, which evolved into the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emerged as a grassroots organizer passionate about youth mobilization and political participation.
In October 2017, Omole was appointed Education Secretary for Akoko South West by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN. He supervised more than 50 projects across 17 public primary schools, completing the majority before resigning to pursue elective office. In March 2019, he won the election to represent Akoko South West Constituency I in the Ondo State House of Assembly. As legislator and spokesperson, he championed initiatives improving education, healthcare, and infrastructure. His community honored him with the traditional title Akogun of Oka-Akoko for his leadership and service.
Beyond politics, Omole is a dynamic entrepreneur. As Chairman and CEO of Akin-Akogun Farms Nigeria Limited, he promotes modern, sustainable agriculture. His initiatives empower youth, train farmers, support women’s participation, and strengthen local food production. Agriculture, for Omole, is not just about business, it is community building and job creation.
As Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Transportation, Omole has driven policy and infrastructure projects that improve road safety, mobility, and economic activity across Ondo State. He emphasizes that good infrastructure is foundational to social and economic development.
Omole’s passion for youth development is most visible through the Akogun Annual Football Competition, held every year since 2018. The tournament attracts young football talents and provides a platform for mentorship and talent discovery. A unique feature is the participation of former Nigerian international footballers. Legends such as Ben Iroha, Dosu Joseph, Mutiu Adepoju, the late Peter Rufai, and Victor Ikpeba visit annually, inspiring young players and guiding them toward professional opportunities. Every edition ensures at least one ex-international mentors the youths, motivating them to pursue their dreams.
Earlier, Omole served as Personal Assistant to former Governor Chief Adebayo Adefarati (2001–2003), focusing on youth and labor matters. He also worked in sports administration as camp commandant and welfare officer for Sunshine Stars Football Club (2009–2011), helping the team qualify for continental competition for the first time.
Omole’s social advocacy extends beyond politics and sports. He has partnered with international experts, including UN awardee Urmila Chanam, to organize menstrual hygiene and empowerment workshops for secondary school girls across Ondo State, promoting inclusivity and community growth.
Before joining the House of Assembly, Omole was CEO of Hero Communication and Events Management, an award-winning firm. He has received multiple recognitions, including the TRACE Magazine Grassroots Development Award (2018) and the title Commander of the Christian Faith African Church, Oka-Akoko Diocese. His writing and social media expertise led to his appointment as South West Coordinator of the Nigerian Social Media Forum.
Away from public service, Akogun Olugbenga Omole is a committed family man who values responsibility and discipline. Through governance, agriculture, transportation policy, and youth initiatives like the Akogun Annual Football Competition, he continues to create opportunities, build communities, and inspire the next generation across Ondo State.
