Hybride” Timeless

Inspired by the world around her, Lydol, known by many, was born Dolly Sorel Nwafo. In her 13-year career as a slam artist, she has carved out a prominent place for herself in a male-dominated field. Her album “Hybride” released in August 2022, allows this slam enthusiast to dream bigger.

KM: Your album “Hybride” seems to advocate for diversity. What accounts for this inclusivity?

LYDOL : “Hybride” is an album where slam intertwines with other musical genres, rhythms and sounds. As an African and proud Cameroonian, it was important for me to infuse this cultural signature into the project. It aims to make slam more accessible by bringing it to the forefront.

KM: How do Africans and Cameroonians in particular, respond to this form of poetry

LYDOL : After 13 years in the industry, when you compare then and now, you realize that people are becoming increasingly informed. Surprisingly, slam is opening doors and giving opportunities. Today, major companies are seeking out slammers.

“It was important for me to infuse this cultural signature into the project.”

KM: We have seen you in several web series. Do you plan to pursue a career in acting

LYDOL : Slam as an art form is not necessarily the most popular. However, when you know how to market your art, you will find buyers. We are fortunate to have knowledge in marketing and communication and to be surrounded by a supportive network. As a “slam trotter” – (she chuckles) – the idea is to continue connecting with people, communities, and cultures. We will pursue the vision in Africa and beyond.

“When you know how to market your art, you will find buyers”.
